CHENNAI: Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday formally began his political journey by first visiting former President late APJ Abdul Kalam s residence in Rameswaram. He will be unveiling his party s name and the flag at a public rally later in the day in Madurai. Kamal met the former President s elder brother and other family members at the residence in Rameswaram around 600 km from here. Greatness can come from simple beginnings he said. Actually it will come only from simplicity. Glad to start my journey from a great man s simple abode the actor added in a tweet. However his second halt at the government school in Mandapam where Kalam studied got cancelled as the district administration did not give permission according to reports reaching here. Speaking to a television channel a leader of a Hindu outfit said they had opposed Kamal s visit to the school as he was trying to gain political mileage and nothing more. Later speaking to the fishing community in Rameswaram Haasan said that it is one of the most important industry in Tamil Nadu. He would be back to listen to the suggestions made by the fisherfolks. Several flags in white with Tamil Nadu map in black sporting the tag line Naalai Namadhe meaning Tomorrow is Ours were seen flying in Rameswaram. Bharatiya Janata Party s Tamil Nadu unit leader Tamilisai Soundararajan told reporters that Kamal appeared to have started a political party to compete against someone . She said while anyone can float a political party Tamil Nadu is not in a situation where only Kamal can save it. On the other hand dalit party leader Thol. Thirumavalan told reporters that Kamal and Rajinikanth are agents of the BJP to affect DMK in Tamil Nadu.
CHENNAI: Two days before launching his political party actor Kamal Haasan on Monday met DMDK leader and his senior in politics Vijayakanth at the latter s office here. Vijayakanth is a forerunner to me and Rajinikanth when it comes to politics. I have met him after a long time. He is my senior in politics. Before I start my journey into politics I wanted to meet my senior Kamal told reporters after his meeting with Vijayakanth. Kamal said Vijayakanth had wished him well. Vijayakanth said people like me should come to politics he said. When asked to comment on BJP s claim that Dravidian politics had no future in Tamil Nadu Kamal said Dravidian politics will emerge victorious in future too. We will prove it.
CHENNAI: Days ahead of taking the political plunge veteran filmstar Kamal Haasan met superstar Rajinikanth today and said he is calling on those whom I like before the formal launch of his party on February 21. Both the actors who command a huge fan following have announced they will enter politics. Rajinikanth said he prayed for divine blessings to be bestowed on his friend Haasan and wished him success in his political endevours. Rajinikanth said he and Hassan had different styles in cinema a possible indication that they may go separate ways in politics too. Haasan had said a few days ago that an alliance between the two was unlikely if Rajinikanth s colour was saffron an apparent reference to the BJP. Rajinikanth has good equations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to reporters after meeting Rajinikanth at his Poes Garden residence here Haasan said he had called on the screen idol as he was meeting those whom I like ahead of the launch of his political party. He has so far met chief ministers of Kerala and Delhi-- Pinarayi Vijayan and Arvind Kejriwal-- besides former chief election commissioner T N Seshan and veteran state CPI leader P Nallakannu. When I decided to take the (political) journey I had informed him (Rajinikanth). Now before leaving for the journey I came to inform those whom I like Haasan said about the meeting. This is not a political meeting but a friendly one. Friendship was dominant (at the meeting) he added. Haasan declined to reveal what exactly transpired at the meeting. Later Rajinikanth told reporters that Haasan invited him for the latter s political journey apparently meaning the launch of the actor s political party. My friend Kamal has come to politics not for money or fame but has come to do good for the people of Tamil Nadu and take care of them. I pray to God for his blessings (on Haasan). I wish him success he said. Rajinikanth who has also said he would join politics indicated the style of working of the two contemporaries could be different although public service was their common goal. Even in cinema our styles are different.. so will it be in politics... but to do good for people is the main thing (for both of them) Rajinikanth said. The decision of the two top Tamil film stars to enter politics comes against the backdrop of a perceived vacuum in Tamil Nadu politics after the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2016. The perception gained further currency due to indifferent health of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. The 93-year-old leader is not actively involved in politics for over a year now. Ever since the two declared they would enter politics there has been a buzz about whether they would come together. While Haasan recently wrote in a weekly that he and Rajinikanth needed to contemplate if it was necessary for them to join hands and face elections the latter said only time will tell whether such a thing would happen. Haasan will address a string of meetings and unveil his party flag at Madurai on February 21 marking the commencement of his political journey. He will address public meetings at Ramanathapuram Madurai Manamadurai and Paramakudi that day.

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Friday expressed https://500px.com/kfrecharge/about shock at the Supreme Court s verdict on Cauvery River water dispute that reduced Tamil Nadu s share in the disputed waters. I am also shocked at the reduction in the supply of water. I have to get more details about the actual judgement but I think the Supreme Court firmly said that water cannot be owned by any state. That s a consoling factor Haasan said at a press conference here. In its verdict on the dispute earlier the same day the Supreme Court allotted an additional 14.75 TMC of river water to the state of Karnataka and reduced Tamil Nadu s share from 192 TMC to 177.25 TMC. The parties to the dispute were the states of Karnataka Tamil Nadu and Kerala who challenged the 2007 order of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) on the sharing of Cauvery the Ganga of southern India. Haasan is set to venture into politics with the aim to change the political status quo of Tamil Nadu.
